Building Information Modeling BIM
What this profession involves
In the construction industry, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an increasingly essential methodology for the digital design, construction, and management of buildings.
BIM enables the creation of a digital information model that integrates all relevant data throughout the entire lifecycle of a project. In this context, specialised professionals manage data flows, digital collaboration, and coordination within complex construction processes.
BIM Specialist
The BIM Specialist is responsible for the digital modelling of construction projects. The role involves working with 3D models within collaborative platforms (Common Data Environment – CDE) and managing technical data across all project phases.
Responsibilities include the creation, maintenance, and updating of digital models, as well as the production of technical documentation. The BIM Specialist ensures that all elements meet technical, regulatory, and design standards.
BIM Coordinator
The BIM Coordinator is responsible for coordination and quality assurance within the BIM process. The role includes monitoring information flows and reviewing models to identify potential conflicts between disciplines (clash detection).
In addition, the BIM Coordinator supports the implementation of standards and workflows and contributes to effective collaboration between all stakeholders involved in the project.
Key skills
- 3D digital modelling and technical design
- Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, ArchiCAD, Navisworks)
- Data coordination and quality control
- Clash detection and resolution of model inconsistencies
- Collaboration and management of digital workflows
Employment opportunities
BIM professionals work in architecture and engineering firms, construction companies, public institutions, or as specialised consultants in digital construction and project management.
